One of the special features of the Prairie Crossing community in Grayslake Illinois is its working organic farm. The Prairie Crossing Farm was one of the first parts of the community to be established and remains at its heart. Based at an old farmstead with several houses, barns and outbuildings, the farm consists of 100 acres.
The Prairie Crossing Farm is owned by the Liberty Prairie Foundation, which operates from headquarters in the Farm’s Yellow Farmhouse. The Liberty Prairie Foundation operates the Farm Business Development Center and the Learning Farm to advance its mission of providing leadership and financial support for local food system development, social entrepreneurship, land conservation, environmental education, and civic engagement.
The farmers at the Prairie Crossing Organic Farm grow healthy, certified organic produce including vegetables, fruit, flowers and eggs without toxic chemicals or pesticides. Although the farm is located inside Prairie Crossing, the Liberty Prairie Foundation’s work extends beyond the immediate grounds of Prairie Crossing. The Prairie Crossing farmers and Learning Farm educational programs reach throughout Lake County, into the broader Chicago region, and beyond.
The Prairie Crossing Organic Farm serves the public and Prairie Crossing
residents in several ways. Find out more by clicking on any of these links:
